What are important factors in buying a long skateboard?

I’ve surfed a bunch and i want a long skateboard to get around on just for the heck of it. I have never skateboarded and obviously i can go to a shop and ask someone but i’d like to know a little bit about what i’m looking for before i go. Anything i should keep in mind? i’m not looking to go to the xgames… just a board that’s easy to learn on.
